I am not a techie kind of person so setting up and maintaining a website will stretch my skills to new heights, hopefully. At the moment, I’m having issues making sure the domain is properly connected and that the site the accessible. A terrible dress rehearsal makes for an amazing show, right? We can dream and keep trying to contact WordPress support.
Now that you know my immediate frame of mind with just trying to get the website up and running, hi!
If you hadn’t picked up on it, my name is Martha. I’m not great with trying to introduce my self in person or online, but here goes. Today’s post will give you my current journey markers. Additional posts will talk about some of my past journey points and new ones I will work toward in the future all while trying to remain grounded in the here and now. Being present to the present and entering into it fully is another skill I am trying to grow and enhance.
For now, you might like to know I am a crochet artist. I love yarn and using it to make new things. I am a mother to a toddler named Alice and her primary caretaker. I am married to a priest in the Episcopal Church who serves as the rector of St. Andrew’s, York. I am also discerning a call to the priesthood and entered into formal discernment with the Diocese of Central PA this past year. This is a journey I am excited to make and see where it leads.
So why am I starting a blog, especially when the popularity of blogs is waning? I have never participated in something when it was popular. I’m either ahead of the crowd (rarely) or meandering at my own pace and doing things when they are beneficial for myself. If it proves beneficial for others too it is more than I can hope, but certainly what I like to dream.
- You can expect me to talk about God, Jesus, Church, Episcopal church, spirituality, theology, yarn, crochet, crafting, creating, and how they intertwine.
- The title of the blog is “playful orthodoxy” – this is the title I used for my Master’s thesis when looking at ways to create passionate engaging encounters with the divine. This is to talk about how we might remain faithful to what has been handed down, while also looking at how God calls us to keep the faith alive and growing for a new creation.
So here’s to starting something new and seeing where it may lead. Here’s to listening for God’s still small voice amidst the clanging noise of society. Here’s to simply trying to be faithful in all I do.
Peace – Martha
